Fantastic Collection!
This a fantastic collection of Doctor Who stories! While some are simply okay, such as One and Nine's adventures, others make up for them like with the brilliant "The Nameless City," "The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage" and "Nothing O'Clock." Fans of the classic series will love the many references throughout the stories, including Ten's adventure which is nothing but a huge throwback to the Mind Robber. These are short, but fun adventures featuring all 11 Doctors. If you're a fan of either the classic or the new series, you'll love this collection!

Not Cut Out For Fan Fiction
I have been a fan of Doctor Who since the mid-‘80’s. I suppose I am an obsessive fan in my own way; however, my fandom has centered almost entirely on the program as transmitted on TV. Though I like to read nonfiction books about the show and the occasional novelization of an episode, I have no real interest in things like comics and fan fiction. And yet, in the excitement of the 50th anniversary of the show last year, I decided to take a look at this collection of short stories. As I expected, it is a mixed bad.Overall, most of the stories were a pleasant enough read. On the other hand, for someone who has watched every extant episode of the TV show multiple times, each story had problems as well. The First Doctor story (“A Big Hand for the Doctor”), for example, is one of the best in the book. It has a clever plot and the personalities of the Doctor and Susan come across as being close to their TV-counterparts. Unfortunately, the plot requires some athletics from the Doctor that the William Hartnell character could never have pulled off. Many of the best stories in the book—“The Roots of Evil” (4th Doctor), “The Ripple Effect” (7th Doctor), “Spore” (8th Doctor), “Nothing O’Clock” (11th Doctor)—are like this: clever plots, good characterizations, but something at some point that doesn’t ring quite true.Of course, any time you have a collection of anything by different authors, the quality is going to vary widely. At its worst, you have stories here that have uninteresting plots (“The Spear of Destiny” (3rd Doctor)), plots that are too derivative (“The Mystery of the Haunted Cottage” (10th Doctor)), or characters that don’t seem to belong to the series at all (“The Beast of Babylon (9th Doctor)). After the 5th Doctor story, “Tip of the Tongue”, which I feel is the worst in the book with a boring plot and a Doctor that barely appears, I almost put the book down. Still, I’m glad I stuck with it as most of the better stories come later. In the end, I’m glad I had the experience of reading this but it’s not likely an experience I’ll repeat soon. I enjoy the fact that writers attempt a loving recreation of a great television program and I always love clever ideas, but the experience of reading stories like this just seems too distant from what I like about the show Doctor Who. I guess I’m not cut out for fan fiction.

well worth the purchase
I bought this as a way to celebrate 50 years of Doctor Who. I really wanted to enjoy some classic Who, but the old episodes are just very hard to watch. This book gives you classic Doctor stories with Modern writing! Each story is around 50 pages or so and most of them are very good! My favorites included the 1st, 10th, and 11th Doctors. If you like Doctor Who, you can't go wrong buying this book. It is a good way to get you Who fix in while waiting for new episodes.

A fun read
I really enjoyed this book. It's a must for any Dr. Who fan. I've only seen the new series, but this book got me excited to go back and watch the old Doctors. Especially the 4th! Obviously some of the stories are stronger and more enjoyable than others, but overall I'm very happy with it.

Variable Quality - Worth Reading as Retrospective
This is a book of short stories by 11 different authors, each tackling a different Doctor. The stories vary in quality, with the one real standout written by Neil Gaiman, the author who penned, “The Doctor’s Wife” and “Nightmare in Silver.” He has a terrific understanding of Matt Smith’s Doctor and the dialogue seems genuine and appropriate. The other stories (First through Tenth Doctor) are all OK, but are not as well written, as they do not capture the full essence and idiosyncrasies of their particular Doctor.Nonetheless, I don't think a Whovian can go wrong by picking up this book.I noticed another reviewer had a bad experience regarding the condition of the book. My copy also had dog eared corners and looked a bit beaten up. This is an unusual experience for me with Amazon.

Doctor Who stories - need I say more?
For Whovians, or generally obsessed fans like me, this is a great book. I usually don't go for short stories, preferring full-length novels, but I really enjoyed the stories with all of our doctors, up to Matt Smith. Hope y'all enjoy it as much as I did.
