I purchase several things on Amazon, and was giving pretty in-depth reviews. From this point on, here's the new agenda…. if it works as advertised, is well made, meets or exceeds the description, is a value, and arrives in a fair amount of time, it will get a "star rating" equal to what my expectations were/are. If it doesn't meet these criteria, then I will most definitely and descriptively tell the short comings of the products and you as a consumer will not have to go through the trouble of buying the product without some background knowledge. If the sell pulls that item and relists under another description I will put the exact same review on the seller's feedback page. Seller's have done this a couple of times in the past, and I was true to my word then as well as now. DR

These are excellent fire starters, especially for the price. The handle is comfortable and the rods are long enough to get a really good spark without too much effort. I had no trouble starting a small fire with them. I've used a couple different fire starters before and had the easiest time starting a fire with these than any of the rest. I was a little hesitant to order as other reviews stated their kits were missing pieces but mine came with everything pictured, plus they came in a nice carrying tin. Well worth every penny!

Once the paint is scraped off, this thing really works! It comes in a case with a telescoping bellows that fits very neatly in my purse. I put a few pieces of cotton and a little tube of Vaseline in the case, too. It’s amazing how quickly a lasting little flame is so easy to produce. It’s reassuring knowing if an emergency ever arises I have a means to generate light or heat or even a signal I am very pleased with this purchase.

I personally have yet to practice and use the Ferro rods, but from unboxing the products do look and feel of sturdy quality and I can’t wait to try these out. What’s unfortunate is that the advertisement is saying that 2 Ferro rods with their strikers and a collapsible bellow and it seems that many are getting inconsistencies in their orders. Mine included. Mine came in a plastic case (which I don’t mind. Others seems to get a tin case. Don’t matter), two Ferro rods and strikers (as promised), but no bellow (which was also promised to be included). As much I like product and want to use them, it’s too bad that it seems like there’s a bad habit of not completely fulfilling their orders properly. Thus the reason I provided a mediocre rating.I would like to have my bellow please!

As soon as I received this item I tried it out. I got a few sparks within a few minutes but I wasn't able to get a fire going, (I didn't have enough kindling). I liked how it was easy to position, my hand gripping the rod didn't slip. I haven't tried out the billows yet but I will sooner or later! These can be tricky to use and it takes practice but if you want to include this in your fire starter kit you should purchase one of these!

I love these things. Easy for anyone to use. I don’t want my grandkids to rely on matches and lighters for starting camp fires. They all can start a fire if needed. I have given these as gifts to friends and family. All are well received. I keep mine in the car and in my ‘bug out’ bag and by the fire pit. The bottle opener is a bonus. The pipe blower helps keep smoke and ashes from blowing back in my face.

The biggest reason I didn't give this five stars was that the small metal piece to strike sparks with is painted, so it doesn't actually work until you file the paint off. It's a minor point really, but if you really needed it, it takes quite a bit to get the paint off so you can start striking sparks off the rod.

Purchased as a stocking stuffer for my son. He and his wife camp during the summer and each year I purchase items like this I think would be helpful out there in the wilderness. It came in a metal case, with the 2 fire starter rods and fire bellow. Happy with this emergency kit and would purchase again.
