Q: Why are they advertising this as a "footprint"? a footprint goes under the tent. photos show "buckles" on the webbing so it must go inside.

Some of the Browning tents have buckles that attached the footprint to the actual tent itself to help secure the footprint. So depedning on the tent you have, you can use the buckles or not.

Q: Is this a "footprint" (for under the tent), or is this an inside-the-tent floor saver pad that you walk on?

It is not a footprint. It is used inside to keep tent clean, remove and shake out.

I researched this on other sites. Based on what I read, it is for the inside of the tent to protect the floor.UPDATE 7/19/17: I wrote my response based on our own experience and use with this floor saver a few months before the rep from Browning responded that it is designed to go underneath the tent to protect from the elements outside on the ground. This is how it works for us: We have a heavy duty tarp (not the blue kind), slightly smaller than the tent by an inch or so on all sides, that we purchased before we got the floor saver and we put the tarp underneath the tent. We use this floor saver for the inside which works well for our needs because of our small dogs. It was always our intention to use it inside. We also put 2 indoor/outdoor rugs on top of it for added comfort and they extend out slightly over the edges of the floor saver to help keep it down. We've had no problems using the floor saver this way and will continue to do so. Both the tent and the floor saver are excellent products and we recommend both.

Q: What is the difference between this and a tarp?

The difference is it’s made to the exact specs of the tent, tarps ould be heavier, but as a vapor barrier underneath, this is perfect.
