Do NOT use this to light your coco Naras with
Do NOT use this to light your coco Nara charcoal with, it's not made for it. I'll stick to the Shoyeido for all my resin incense needs. NOTE: Charge is done when the green light goes off. Overall, I'm pleased with this. It did require extra charging, especially after I wasted it on a piece of thick, square useless Coco Nara charcoal. If anything you have requires high heat to light, then this isn't for you. Even though it's not made as well as I'd hoped (plastic housing around the Tesla coil itself, not ceramic or metal), plus it's a single-prong coil/arc, so not as much power. But I'm pleased with this nonetheless. Lit my incense up, but took a few tries. Still a nifty gadget to have around, plus I liked the little bag it came with, fits the lighter perfectly.

Great Concept, However no flame concept has issue
I like that its electric powered as I am always worried having a flammable can at home. This works great for any objects the is really flammable like gas burner, candle wicks, gas soaked rags. This will work as long as you can have the object pass thru the arc. So if you have old cloth wick from an oil lamp, it will work but will take a while, especially if wick is dusty. Anyway for cases where an open flame is needed, you have to improvise by twisting a paper towel and burning it, then using the open flame. Still having this in an emergency kit is really convenient and safe, especially considering the easy availability of external USB/Solar battery

Initially I thought the USB cable was left out of my order but it was then pointed out to me that it is located in the tiny box at the top of the gift box which I thought was just the logo. Lighter works well, so far. It's a little longer than I expected but that's fine. It's obviously plastic and I think it would look nicer in a stainless steel but for the price I'll keep it.

Bye Bye Unreliable Gas Lighters!
I just received this lighter today (2/17/2017), so this is a straight-out-of-the-box review. I bought it because I got fed up with the unreliable gas lighters I used for lighting charcoal. Because this lighter does not produce an actual flame, I will have to modify the way I start my BBQ. Using a "chimney" to light my charcoal, I used the flame of a gas lighter to direct heat upwards, igniting the newspaper from below. This lighter will require the newspaper to make direct contact with the approximately 1/8" arc produced between the electrodes. The extra time and effort needed to fully ignite the newspaper would still be a minor inconvenience compared with the repeated inconveniences (and all that wasted money!) from all of those gas lighters that broke on me throughout the years. This lighter is very nicely built, in that it is light and balanced in its weight, the body of the lighter feels solid and fits nicely in the hand, the slide button operates smoothly to extend the electrodes out from the protection of the stem tip, and the sliding forward of this button exposes the ignition button for instant and effortless heat. The electric arc remains powered on until the ignition button is released. I really like the facts that this is "fueled" only by electricity, that the electrodes can be retracted into the protection of the stem tip, and that it is genuinely windproof, making it not only a great BBQ tool, but an important addition to any emergency kit.

amazing!...until recharged of course.
this was a really simple to use lighter that I didnt have to worry would run out of fule and leave me in a bind....until in ran out of battery and left me without a lighter because it will not recharge. When I plug it in, a green light comes on (as if its fully charged) and stays on. It does not charge. not even a little. it wont even arc while plugged in. I'm super bummed.

Works great and hasn't started to falter yet.
I was really worried about it being DOA, and even recently it seemed to die on me. But after plugging it in for 30-40 minutes or more it is back to normal.I've owned it for a couple months now, and it is still going strong. I can only hope this lasts for another year or two at least, because it is way better than having the little gas lighters.

Good for Burninating
It's cool bro, it lights stuff on fire.Light candles, paper, melt plastic, or anything flammable and non-metallic between the electrodes.Recharge it like your cell phone with Micro USBIf I use it to zap a knife blade, the EMI generated causes my computer screen to disconnect and reconnect. It is a source of electromagnetic interference (EMI), so use away from wires. Also it doesn't affect metal, except if you hold metal while tasing it, you'll get a shock too. So it doesn't work with solder. If the whole thing gets wet, I'd wait for it to dry off before using it, lest a current run from the end to your hand and jolt you.But it won't kill you, it just works better dry.- Trogdor the Burninator

More of a gimmick vs a flame lighter
The best thing about it: when it works it doesn't require butane or refills. When you press the button it arcs across the tips to light paper and can be used to light candles, but beware. If you touch the interior tips to the wick of the candle it can short the arc and I need to clean the tips/points often. Also, it doesn't hold a charge for very long. This worked well for the first few weeks, but since then I've been having trouble getting a consistent arc from it. I'm also struggling now to light my large Yankee Candles now that they are getting close to the bottom of the jar. It works, but I feel it is more of a gimmick than a standard flame lighter.
