Wilderness Systems Rudder Kit

I installed this on a Tarpon 140 this weekend. I assumed at this price it would include better components (actual stainless cable instead of nylon twine) and passable instructions or a website link. It’s very generic with the vast majority of the hardware not necessary but I guess needed if it’s so generic. But generic should support a dramatically lower price. Honestly I feel like I paid triple what this was worth, but at least I have a rudder now.

Nylon line included could NOT be fed thru the guide tubing. This proved to be a major issue. Spent hours attempting to feed this line into the tubing. I had to go to west marine to purchase stainless steel control lines. With the stainless it to me less that 60 seconds to feed the line thru the tubing. Shame on wilderness for cheaping out.

This is a good kit for adding a rudder. But it will not fit on a Pungo 140!! Even called Wilderness Systems. You have to have a flat, vertical surface to mound it.After some internet searching I found someone who had made a bracket to adapt it to the Pungo line. Stainless bracket in picture does not come with kit.

The instructions have all the detail needed. I installed it in about 2 hours in a Tsunami 145..

The rudder is good but to much extra parts and instruction hard to fallow. Save your money by buying the rudder and watching U-tube.

After 2 evenings and 8 hours I finally got this thing installed in a “rudder ready” Tarpon. Do you enjoy trying to pick a lock with a wet noodle? Then this kit provides hours of fun trying to push a string through a tiny tube. Do you feel that clear instructions are for noobs? We’ll rest assured this grainy, I’ll conceived and poorly executed set of instructions will allow you to freely guess about what goes where. Do you like paying $300 AND then getting to go to the hardware store for parts? Then run don’t walk to get this kit. I’d say the markup on this thing is 2-3 fold what it’s actually worth. I may update this review once I’ve had a chance to use this on the water but at this price point I expected something quite different than what I got.

Easy install onto atak 120, seems sturdy enough- but I can’t help but feel like I overpaid...

If you have a Wilderness Systems Kayak, this is the rudder kit you want, no exceptions. The kit fit like a glove on my ATAK 120 and Radar.
