RB's two best releases on one disc
Excellent. RB's two best releases on one disc. As a long time Roy fan I am extremely pleased to have this release. He is truly an American original who never achieved superstar status. It certainly wasn't because he lacked talent. One of the best players to ever pick up a guitar. If you are a collector of guitar music your collection is not complete without a RB disc. Warning for those who are expecting all out in your face guitar- this is not the disc for you. The songs are a mix of country, blues, jazz and rock played with incredible tone and sometimes beauty. Looking for machine gun speed? its in there as well. RB's music is not for the casual fan, it's for those of us that appreciate the art and dig a little deeper in our listening. If that is something that describes you, review reader then buy this disc. I'm sure you will love it as much as the rest of us Roy Buchanan fans. Those of you that know Roy already know that i am preaching to the choir.

Roy's guitar shines!
Truly fantastic compilation of Roy's first two albums. The musicianship here is tremendous. Vocals on the self-titled disc are done mostly by Chuck Tilley and they are fine. Roy does the vocal on "The Messiah Will Come Again" and it is perfect, very compelling. The opening track "Sweet Dreams" the Don Gibson tune is beautifully done. The guitar on this disc is stupendous which one is come to expect from Roy. The backing band is a capable bunch who do not get in Roy's way, the sign of a good backing group. The 'Second Album' is a stellar exhibition of Roy's guitar even more than the first album. "Filthy Teddy" is particularly good. With the exception of "The Messiah..." I like the second album a little better in that has more hot Roy guitar. But both albums are a great representation of what Buchanan was all about. The backing band on the "Second Album" is the same as the first with the exception of bass, Pete Van Allen on the first and Don Payne on the second. There is a lot of Roy's fabulous guitar on these two albums and that's what it's all about. This man is simply one of the greatest guitarists ever and he deserves all the accolades he can get. The "Messiah..." is repeated on the second disc but I like the first album's version the best. This disc is a super buy due to the excellence of Roy Buchanan, a twofer that gives the listener a good introduction to this true guitar god.

Great 2 on one cd compilation
This cd features tracks from buchanans first two albums - i had these on vynil many years ago and replacing them with cd is great . He certainly was an awesome musician with completely his own style of playing - even after this many years they are in a class of their own . Brilliant .

Read this if you started with a compilation
If, like me, your first Roy Buchanan album was a compilation, you might be thinking whether it's worth going back and buying the original albums. So here's what I think re this 2-album disc. The first album is brilliant, but that brilliance is based on 4 wonderful tracks, basically (and if you have a compilation you'll know which those are). The others are pretty uninteresting filler. I mean, does the world really need another limp version of Hey Good Lookin'?Second album has much more strength in depth, and it might be worth just buying that one rather than this 2-album set.I still haven't decided whether to go on and buy all Roy's albums, or just to buy a couple more compilations to cover the whole of his career. But judging by what's on these 2 albums, the people making the compilations knew what they were doing, and a decent one really will contain the "best" of Roy Buchanan.

Iconic blues.
Nothing to dislike about this album. A gem of a blues album by an unfamiliar name to me, Roy Buchanan. Thanks to Action Records for the sale and delivery of the album.
