This is my top choice.
First of all the cable is permanently attached.I LOVE THATYou don't lose the cable, you don't have an extra one to keep up with, it stows well, and it works well. I get great USB 3 transfer speeds. If you're like me and you happen to have a bunch of 2.5" drives sitting around gathering dust, this is an excellent way to turn them into portable drives. This model is the rugged one. It's a little more difficult to install the drive than the budget model, but it's worth the extra work. This thing reminds me of mobile phones I've carried around in Otter Box cases in the past. I carry a drive in my military style MOLLE backpack and I'm not worried about damaging anything. It's water resistant and impact resistant, exactly what someone who's rough on stuff like I am needs.I keep budget ones at home, I keep this one with me.

I've tried newer fancier types of enclosures, but always come back to this one
As a photographer and filmmaker, I go through a lot of external drives. I always buy the SSD separately and plug it into an enclosure. Cheaper than buying an all enclosed unit. Anyway, I've been through a lot of different models and this is the one I always come back to. Throughput is fine for 4K video editing, shock absorption is really great, and they've never failed me. Other enclosures have (especially the newer NVME size ones). Easy to recommend these.

Works well. A bit clunky. Built-in cord too short.
I bought a 1TB SSD to use with a new laptop that has limited, very expensive M.2 RAM.Since the SSD is expensive, I shopped for a shock-resistant case and this one with its promise of meeting a MIL spec looked good.I've noted the complaints about seemingly "defective" units and the remedies offered, so I was really careful about making sure that the SSD was fully seated. You have to push aside the seals to make visual verification of proper seating. It's easy to see how people may have inserted a drive and thought it was fully seated when it was not.Anyway, I put in the SSD, plugged the six-inch built-in cord into the USB 3.0 socket and the unit and then the drive were immediately recognized. I also tried it on a powered USB 3.0 hub with the same results. The six-inch cord length may be dictated by the design of the unit, but it is, in my opinion, too short. I will be carrying a short USB extension cable with this. On the other hand, the six-inch cable wraps snugly along the side and it isn't going to be lost or misplaced, which is one of the reasons this unit appealed to me.I don't know if this unit will live up to its shock-resistance claims and I am not going to be dropping it on a concrete floor to test it. But if appearances are any indicator, this unit is definitely built to absorb the effects of bumps and falls. Very impressive, in fact. The enclosure has a "macho" design which doesn't move me much and it is understandably larger than normal external drive housings.Six tiny screws secure the base plate to the housing. A small screwdriver is provided and my unit came with eight screws, which is nice because these screws dropped on a carpet are not going to be easy to find. The screws are going into silicone, not metal or hard plastic. You have to be very careful of not over-tightening them.Overall, I think I'm getting my money's worth in this case and that my SSD will be pretty well protected. I did use CrystalMark to benchmark my SSD in this case and it seems fast enough in my limited testing, which is good enough for my needs and under these circumstances. I'll be using this primarily for project storage and will transfer necessary files to the internal M.2 of the laptop, which is blazingly fast.Jerry

Just what I needed.
First, peel the rubber off from the hard plastic top shell. No screws to remove during this step. Then, find a bag with screws (a couple of extra screws included which is helpful) and a square foam adhesive pad inside the unit cavity. Slip the hard drive/SSD in to the rubber housing where you see less rubber on either side. This slot feeds the drive nicely into the drive seat. This is a test run because you then place the foam rubber square underneath and on your drive in the obvious place. Now seat the drive and then TEST your drive is recognized by your computer prior to screwing the lid on. The six screws are easily installed using the small, supplied screwdriver. Be sure to pinch the hard case pieces together to compress the rubber gasket to ensure a tight fit. That's it. Enjoy.

Smart rugged effective design with convenient cable storage
Great design at a great price.Opens easily with 6 phillips screws that keep hard shell secured around a pliant rubber gasket/bumper and carrier that cradles the drive. Drive slides into carrier securely. Carrier provides very substantial shock absorption and looks like it should also be well-sealed from moisture (i didn't test but it leaves no doubt). Shell is rigid and strong. Integrated sturdy USB cable stores easily and securely around outer edge of bumper offering further shock absorption for an edge hit. Cable storage provides protection for the USB plug. Installed drive is detected immediately. Data transfers at full drive speed (e.g., 75 MB/s) Blue LED shines through one side of case to show operation.
